Situated at No. 2 The Bund—amidst the famous architectural cluster known as the “Exhibition of World Architecture”—the Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on the Bund was the first Waldorf Astoria hotel to open in Asia. The property comprises a historic, protected building from 1911 (the former Shanghai Club) and a modern riverside tower, linked by the Grand Brasserie corridor. By blending classic British heritage with contemporary “quiet luxury” design, it has established itself as a landmark ultra-luxury hotel in Shanghai.

The hotel features 260 guest rooms and suites, ranging from modern river-view rooms to vintage-style Club Suites in the historic building. Custom-made wall-to-wall carpeting serves as a core element of the interior soft furnishings, extending across guest rooms, corridors, public areas, banquet halls, and lounge bars. The design team tailored patterns, colors, and weaving techniques to suit the specific functions and styles of each area, while meeting rigorous high-end hotel standards for aesthetics, noise reduction, durability, stain resistance, and fire safety.

The hotel embodies the century-long legacy of the Bund; iconic venues such as the renowned Long Bar and the distinctive Grand Brasserie—famous for its afternoon tea—create unique social spaces. With its blend of historical charm and prime views of the Huangpu River, the hotel is a preferred choice for high-end business and leisure travelers, as well as a celebrated destination in Shanghai for banquets, weddings, and art-focused visits.

The juxtaposition of old and new architecture demanded exceptional standards for the interior soft furnishing design. The custom carpets skillfully bridge the contrasting atmospheres of the two sections, using rich textures and colors to define spatial layers and soften the rigid architectural lines.
